How to Fix if Your Left or Right AirPod is not Working?

Apple AirPods are premium true wireless headsets where you hardly find any issues But if the one you come across, it can either be left or right AirPods stop working while the other works fine. This could be due to a connection issue or the battery could be low. Whether you’re listening to music, or on a phone call, you can try these 6 things that will help you fix your problem when AirPod is not working.

1. Check AirPods battery level

In AirPods, both the headsets have separate batteries and there might be an issue of low battery. This happens when you are using the same AirPod for a long time. If any of the headset batteries is low then it will simply discount after notifying you about the battery level. The other headset will remain to be connected. You should check the battery level of your AirPods if it stops working.

To check AirPods battery, you’ll need to open Control Center on your iPhone and then tap the icon in the top-right corner to reveal the battery status, under Music Card. Remove the AirPods from your ears and put them back in the case, and then wait a few seconds. Now, check if AirPods are working fine or not. If still, AirPod is not working, then go to the next solution.

2. Forget and re-pair AirPods

If you are still facing the problem and can’t get back the dead AirPods working, then you can try to forget from your iPhone’s Bluetooth devices list. To do this, launch Settings on your iPhone and tap on the Bluetooth option. You’ll see your AirPods connected to your iPhone’s Bluetooth, tap the ‘i’ icon on the right, and tap Forget this device at the bottom.

Now put both AirPods back in the case and pair them again. Open the lid and press and hold the physical button of the case for a few seconds. When you see AirPods in your iPhone’s list of Bluetooth devices, pair it and hear if both AirPods are working.

3. Hard reset your AirPods

If these methods don’t work for you, try resetting your AirPods which restores them to factory defaults. The process will be similar. You just need to press the button on the case for 15 seconds or more until the LED lights up on the case. Now just pair as you want and check if it works. If still, AirPod is not working, then go to the next solution.

4. Updating AirPods

Updating AirPods firmware can sometimes solve this problem. But remember, you cannot update your AirPods Pro directly and you have to do it through your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

Apple recently released some improvements and changes regarding fixes for both the regular AirPods as well as the new AirPods pods based on their changelogs. So be sure to watch for updates. If you’re not sure how to properly update your AirPods on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, here’s how you do it:

  1. Go to your Settings app and then tap General.
  2. Next, tap on Software Update.
  3. Check if there is any update available downloaded and installed. You can see them right there. Once an update appears, simply tap on the Download and then the Install buttons to begin the updating process.

Once the installation is done, your device will automatically restart. Now, check if it is working!

5. Reset network settings

Sometimes, the problem is not with AirPods, but it could be your iPhone. This happens when you have multiple Bluetooth devices, a connectivity issue with one of the AirPods can occur. So, all you need to do is just reset the network settings on your iPhone. Now, they should work fine.

Please note: If you reset your network setting you will lose all your saved Bluetooth devices on your iPhone and need to pair them again. In addition to that, all the saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords will also be deleted, so don’t do it unless it’s a necessary step.

To do so, you need to go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings.

6. Reboot your iPhone or iPad

If none of them works, the last thing you want to do is restart or reboot your iPhone as the issue doesn’t really have to be with the AirPods itself, but with your iPhone or iPad.

That’s all you can do to fix the AirPods issue on your iPhone or iPad.

In any case, if you need to go for a replacement, then check if your AirPods qualify for a free replacement.
